Study of the effects of electronic information services on Academic Research in a world leading, multiple-media company
Media Sector
The Company
The client company is a world leading, multiple-media publisher of scientific, technical and health information products and services.
Business Challenges
- Gain insight in faculty current costs and processes and the benefits of a digital library
- Present to the market an additional compelling business case for the transition to a digital library, this time from the users’ point of view
- Collect data to publish a follow-up scientific article in due course on the cost savings of digital content distribution
Our Solution
- In a first workshop with academic researchers we established the scope of the study and built a conceptual model for determining the benefits of a digital library
- Over a period of 3 weeks academic researchers measured their actual time spending
- In a second workshop we verified the current situation, determined the past situation and formulated our findings and conclusions
The Result
The study shows that more is browsed, searched and read in less hours or for roughly equivalent costs.
